We offer first and second grade. First grade opened in Fall 2025 with an integrated Kindergarten and First Grade class. Second grade follows in Fall 2026.

Each class has a maximum of 16 students. Small groups support strong learning and close relationships. All DKH classrooms have an assistant, ensuring our student to teacher ratio stays small

We focus on strong reading and math skills, small classes, and a warm, calm environment where children feel known. Students move, explore, and learn through hands-on activities, outdoor play, and curiosity-driven projects. They build confidence, independence, and a love for learning.

Learning through nature is a big part of who we are. Over half of our campus is outdoors and we use our gardens, outdoor classrooms, and open space for daily learning, play, and movement. Children spend meaningful time outside each day and learn to care for the world around them.

Our program blends guided reading, structured phonics, and strong math foundations with hands-on exploration in science and social studies. We use Guided Reading, Zoophonics, and Learning Without Tears for handwriting and language, along with other resources that support our play-based approach to learning. Each element of our curriculum encourages critical thinking, meaningful conversation, collaboration, and active engagement.

Students enjoy Spanish, Art, Music, KidFit (our physical education program), STEM Lab, and AgriSTEAM. Outdoor learning takes place in our certified Nature Explore Classroom.

The schedule balances reading, writing, and math with movement, outdoor play, and creative work. Children learn in small groups and rotate through hands-on activities.

Students have multiple movement and outdoor play times each day. Children need time to move to learn well.

Not at this time. We believe young children thrive when they feel comfortable and free to express themselves. Students dress in clothes that support learning, movement, and outdoor play.

We teach children how to name their feelings, solve problems, and build healthy friendships through daily modeling, calm guidance, and routine practice. Our teachers introduce tools for communication and emotional awareness, including the Kimochi program. We help students feel seen, valued, and ready to manage challenges with confidence.

Classes are led by degreed, experienced educators who understand how young children learn.

All educators at DKH Academy possess a passion for early childhood education and a heart for children. Beyond that, every preschool teacher through kindergarten has earned a four-year degree in higher education, most are teacher certified or have a degree in an applicable field pertaining to child development or education. Continuing education is a yearly focus and requirement to ensure best practices and innovative approaches in the classroom.

DKH Academy continuously invests in campus security, with ongoing attention to staff training and support from our local Police Department. Measures include monitored video surveillance, robust security doors, badge access at all entry points with intercoms at primary entrances, campus paging, phones in every classroom, lockable classroom doors and safe arrival and dismissal processes add to your peace of mind when choosing DKH as your child’s school.

DKH Parent Teacher Organization is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to encourage family engagement by offering many volunteer opportunities throughout the school year, while providing financial support to maintain our high standards across all areas of providing the best early childhood education.
